A major
supplier of automotive disc
brakes to OEMs and aftermarket
suppliers ran into a road block
with the lubricant it used to
quell brake noise. A key ingredient,
molybdenum disulfide, experienced
dramatic cost increases (between
2000 and 2006, molybdenum prices
soared from about $2 per pound
to about $15 per pound) and
tight supplies. To remain competitive,
the supplier had to find a grease
alternative that met the high
performance standards required
for automotive brake applications,
at a lower cost.
Finding no
viable alternative on the market,
the supplier turned to Grignard
Company. |

Leveraging
our deep knowledge and experience
in specialty greases, Grignard
chemists developed a formulation
that offered a reduced volume
of molybdenum disulfide, combined
with a proprietary blend of natural
and synthetic graphites. The product,
MolyBrake Shh, not only met the
customer’s price target
but exceeded performance expectations—providing
lubrication, temperature performance
and water performance far superior
to those of competing products.
To
meet the customer’s private
label packaging needs, Grignard
delivered the innovative, cost-saving
product in 5cc tubes labeled
according to the supplier’s
design specifications. |
