Due to
environmental regulations pertaining
to solvent-based products, a
major manufacturer of rotational-molded,
polyurethane mannequins could
no longer use the volatile organic
compounds (VOC) employed for
eons. The manufacturer needed
a new, water-based alternative
that would perform as well as
its former solvent-based release
agent for both release and post-processing
performance.
After evaluating
numerous off-the-shelf products
with no success, the company
turned to Grignard for a solution
that would meet its challenging
criteria. |

Since the
manufacturer had no chemists on
staff, Grignard chemists started
by carefully evaluating the manufacturer’s
molding formula, materials and
processes, including on-site plant
visits. Then they went to work
in the lab, developing and evaluating
several potential water-based
alternatives. Extensive testing
in the lab and at the manufacturer’s
facility revealed one of the formulas—Release
It 86—met or exceeded all
requirements. In addition to complying
with environmental standards and
providing effective release, Release
It 86 reduced the amount of post-processing
work required, saving production
time and money. The
Grignard team continued to work
with the customer following
implementation of Release It
86 to ensure its effectiveness.
Grignard chemists also consulted
on issues outside the scope
of its release agent project,
such as helping the customer
address some issues related
to mannequin painting.
Grignard Company
continues its close association
with the manufacturer, acting
as a trusted source of knowledge,
expertise and high-performance
products. |
